Every Word Has Power: The Poetry of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

Every Word Has Power:

The Poetry of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

Watch The Trailer:

Unquestionably, Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel was one of the great religious figures of the 20th century. He was also one of the most important social critics of his time, being an outspoken supporter of the civil rights movement and equally vocal against the Vietnam war, a renowned philosopher, scholar, teacher and mystic. But a poet?

Every Word Has Power opens a window onto another facet of Heschel’s brilliance: his poetry, written when he was just 22. Here, ten of his poems are set to music and performed in concert by one of Jewish music’s most eloquent singers and composers, Basya Schecter. With commentary from those who personally knew Heschel, from those who have studied him, and those who have tried to live his philosophy, another dimension of the larger-than-life Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel is revealed.
